DEPARTMENT OF NEUROBIOLOGY

History

The Department of Neurobiology was founded at the University School of Physical Education in Poznań in 1981 and its first supervisor was prof. Kazimierz Grottel.

Activities

The scientific work is held in two laboratories: electrophysiological and histochemical. The research of the Department is focused on neuronal networks of the central nervous system that are involved in motor control and on motor units activity in skeletal muscles. Methods used in experimental studies are either electrophysiological (intracellular recordings from spinal neurones and recordings from functionally isolated motor units) or neuroanatomical (labelling of neurones with fluorescent tracers). Also glycogen depletion of muscle fibers and PAS reaction are used.

The educational work concerns lectures and classes in neurobiology for students of the faculty of physiotherapy, physical education and sport.
